What the UAE Actually Changes About Solar Design Software

- Site and array layout with cleaning access routes shown, not just module positions.
- Single-line diagram with protection, isolation, and metering arrangement to the utility’s requirements.
- String sizing calculation demonstrating the operating window holds at the site’s design maximum and minimum cell temperatures.
- Yield report with soiling loss and cleaning frequency stated as explicit assumptions.
- Structural calculations for the mounting system, including wind loading and, for rooftop, the existing structure’s capacity.

What Most UAE Developers Get Wrong
They model a European plant in a Gulf climate.
The pattern is consistent on projects we review: the yield report carries a soiling loss set at a temperate default, the string sizing was checked at a design temperature that does not occur locally, and there is no cleaning regime in the operating budget. Each of those individually is a modest error. Together they produce a plant that underperforms its financial model from the first summer, and the owner discovers it during the first performance ratio review.
The second mistake is designing without cleaning access. A dense layout that maximises capacity per square metre and leaves no room to get a cleaning rig between rows converts a solvable operating cost into an unsolvable one.
