Search Fiverr for a solar permit set and you get pages of gigs. Many titles promise a plan set, a single-line diagram and a PE stamp in one package. For an installer with a backlog, that looks like the fastest fix available.

The price on the gig card is not the problem. The problem is how a Fiverr order is built: it is designed to close within days, while a permit stays open for weeks. This guide uses Fiverr’s own Help Center to explain the mechanics that matter for solar design. It also shows where a gig fits and where it does not.

Quick answer. Fiverr solar design can work for low-risk drafting: a concept layout, a CAD cleanup, a proposal graphic. For a permit set, the order model is a poor fit. Fiverr adds a 5.5% buyer fee, an order auto-completes 3 days after delivery, and the Resolution Center closes once it completes. AHJ correction comments usually arrive later, so the buyer carries the revision risk.

TL;DR

  • Fiverr charges buyers 5.5% per payment, plus $3.50 on orders under $200. Extras and tips carry their own fee.
  • A standard order completes automatically 3 days after delivery unless you accept it or ask for a revision.
  • The Resolution Center cannot be used on a completed order, so a plan-check comment that lands in week three has no built-in path.
  • A PE stamp is only valid from an engineer licensed in the project state. Check the license on the state board site yourself.
  • Use Fiverr for scoped drafting tasks. Use an accountable engineering service for anything that goes to an AHJ.

This guide is written for the US installer or permit coordinator weighing a gig against a permit design partner. If you are comparing hourly freelancers instead, read our Upwork freelancer comparison. It covers a different marketplace model.

How Fiverr solar design gigs are structured

A Fiverr gig is a fixed-scope product, not an engagement. Fiverr lets a seller offer up to three package tiers. Each tier sets its own scope, number of revisions and extras, according to Fiverr’s Gig packages article (accessed 6 Oct 2026).

That structure suits work with a clear finish line, like a logo. A permit set has no clear finish line until the AHJ issues the permit. The package’s revision count covers changes you request before acceptance, not comments a plan checker writes later.

What solar gigs typically advertise

Fiverr category pages such as “solar permit set” and “PE stamp solar” list many gigs. Their titles bundle a permit plan set, an SLD and a stamp. We observed these titles in search results on 6 October 2026. Fiverr blocks automated page fetches, so we did not verify individual gig prices or seller claims, and we do not quote them here.

Treat any gig title as marketing copy. A title that says “all states” or “approval guaranteed” tells you what the seller wants you to believe. It does not tell you who seals the drawings or which code edition they used.

What Fiverr actually charges a buyer

Fiverr’s fee is published and simple. The standard buyer service fee is 5.5% of the purchase amount. Fiverr adds $3.50 to orders under $200. Every separate payment, such as an extra or a tip, carries its own fee, per Fiverr’s payments article (updated 3 Oct 2026).

Gig price (illustrative)5.5% feeSmall-order feeTotal at checkout
$100$5.50$3.50$109.00
$150$8.25$3.50$161.75
$250$13.75$0.00$263.75

The gig prices in this table are round numbers for the arithmetic, not market rates. The fee rarely decides the purchase. What costs real money is the second and third round of work after the order has closed.

The timing gap: when the order closes vs when the AHJ responds

This is the part most buyers miss. A standard order completes automatically 3 days after delivery, and a milestone order after 8 days. That happens if the client neither accepts nor requests a revision, according to Fiverr’s order process guide (accessed 6 Oct 2026).

Fiverr’s dispute tool is the Resolution Center. It “is unavailable for orders that are already completed or canceled,” per Fiverr’s Resolution Center article (updated 5 Oct 2026). So the platform’s protection ends a few days after the files arrive.

Plan review runs on a different clock. Your set goes into the AHJ queue, and corrections come back when the reviewer gets to it. Our redline and resubmission guide walks through that cycle.

Watch out. Say you accept the delivery, or let the 3 days pass, before the AHJ reviews the set. Any correction work then becomes a new order at the seller's discretion. Budget for that, or keep the order open with a written revision request.

Can you keep the order open?

Partly. Requesting a revision stops the auto-complete timer for that delivery. You cannot realistically hold an order open for weeks while waiting on a plan checker, and a seller can decline scope that sits outside the package.

Milestone orders give a little more room, with an 8-day window per milestone. Fiverr charges each milestone separately as you approve it, per the same payments article. A milestone tied to “AHJ comments resolved” only works if the seller agrees to it in writing.

What a gig package leaves undefined

A professional permit engagement is defined by who is accountable. A gig is defined by what gets delivered. The table below maps the gap.

Permit set requirementWhat a typical gig package definesWhat you need to confirm before ordering
PE seal from an engineer licensed in the project stateA “stamp” line item, if anyThe engineer’s name, license number and state, checked on the state board site
Code basisOften “latest NEC”The NEC, IBC/IRC and fire code editions your AHJ has adopted
Structural calculationSometimes a letterSite-specific roof framing, loads and attachment detail
Correction cyclesA count of pre-acceptance revisionsWho answers plan-check comments after the order completes, and at what cost
Equipment changesNot coveredWho revises and re-seals if procurement swaps a module or inverter
Record keepingFiles in the order threadCAD source files and a revision log you own

Code edition drift is a common correction reason. Our NEC edition by state guide explains how to confirm what your AHJ enforces. Equipment swaps after sealing create their own paperwork, covered in PE stamp revisions after an equipment swap.

How to verify a PE stamp offered on Fiverr

Professional engineering licenses are issued by state licensing boards, as NCEES explains on its licensure page. A seal is only meaningful in the state where that engineer holds an active license. A Fiverr username tells you nothing about that.

Run this check before you pay:

  1. Ask for the engineer’s full legal name and license number, in the Fiverr thread.
  2. Look the license up on the state board site. In California, that is the BPELSG license lookup.
  3. Confirm the license is active and in the discipline your AHJ expects (electrical, structural or civil).
  4. Confirm that the person sealing the set reviewed it. A seal is the engineer’s professional responsibility, not a graphic.
  5. Ask your AHJ whether a seal is required for your project type at all. Many residential jobs need one; requirements vary by jurisdiction.

For background on what the seal certifies, see our solar PE stamp explainer. If the seller will not share license details before the order, treat that as your answer.

Does Fiverr Pro solve this?

Fiverr Pro adds a hand-vetting step by Fiverr’s team. In March 2025, Fiverr moved the Pro badge off profile pictures. The aim was to stop clients confusing it with identity verification, per Fiverr’s Pro badge article (updated 4 Oct 2026).

Pro vetting is a quality screen by a marketplace. It is not a check of a state engineering license. You still run the license lookup yourself.

Off-platform rules and why they matter for solar work

Permit work involves site photos, utility bills, roof measurements and back-and-forth with the AHJ. Fiverr allows communication through third-party tools “only after an order has been placed.” Taking payments off Fiverr breaks its Terms of Service and can lead to suspension, per Fiverr’s off-platform policy (updated 6 Oct 2026).

In practice, that means:

  • You cannot sign a separate retainer or master services agreement for ongoing work with a seller you met on Fiverr without breaching those terms.
  • Correction work after completion has to be bought as a new Fiverr order.
  • If you move to email or phone, Fiverr asks users to log summaries on the platform. Otherwise you lose evidence in a dispute.

None of this is unreasonable for a marketplace. It just means the relationship stays transactional, one order at a time.

When Fiverr is a reasonable choice

Fiverr solar design is fine where a mistake is cheap and caught by you, not by a plan checker. Good fits include:

  • A sales-stage roof layout or 3D concept for a proposal
  • Redrawing a hand sketch or PDF into clean CAD
  • A one-off graphic for a customer presentation
  • A second-opinion string sizing check you will verify yourself

Fiverr fits when

  • The scope is small and fully defined
  • You review the output before it leaves your office
  • No seal or AHJ submission depends on it

Fiverr struggles when

  • The set goes to an AHJ and corrections follow
  • You need a sealed set from a verified state license
  • You submit every month and need the same standards each time

Volume is the deciding factor. At two permits a year, you can manage one-off gigs closely. At twenty a month, a different seller per job means a different drafting standard per job, and your team ends up doing the QC. Our white-label design QA checklist shows what that review involves.

What a professional permit design service changes

A permit design service is an ongoing engagement, so correction comments are part of the job rather than a new order. You also get one drafting standard across jobs, which makes plan-check comments easier to predict. Our plan set contents guide lists what a complete set should contain.

It is not automatically better. A service costs more per set than a cheap gig, and quality varies between firms too. If you are weighing a US drafter against an offshore team, see domestic vs offshore permit design. Judge any vendor, including us, with the same checklist used for a gig: who seals, which code basis, who answers corrections, and who owns the files.

How Heaven Designs helps

FAQ

Is Fiverr solar design legitimate?

Fiverr is a legitimate marketplace, and some sellers are qualified engineers. The marketplace does not verify state engineering licenses for you. Check any license yourself and match the scope to the risk of the work.

How much does Fiverr add on top of the gig price?

Fiverr’s standard buyer service fee is 5.5% of the purchase amount, plus $3.50 for orders under $200. Each extra or tip is a separate payment with its own fee. Fiverr shows the fee at checkout before you pay.

Can a Fiverr seller legally stamp my solar plans?

Only if that individual holds an active PE license in your project state and reviewed the work. Ask for the name and license number, then confirm it on the state board website. Your AHJ decides whether a seal is required.

What happens if the AHJ rejects a set I bought on Fiverr?

If the order has completed, the Resolution Center is no longer available for it. You would need to buy correction work as a new order, at whatever terms the seller offers. Agree on correction handling in writing before you place the first order.

Is Fiverr Pro safer for permit sets?

Fiverr Pro adds marketplace vetting of a seller’s experience and portfolio. It does not replace a state license check or change the auto-complete and dispute rules. Use the same verification steps.

Should I use Fiverr for PVsyst or proposal layouts?

For a sales-stage layout, Fiverr can be a fair low-cost option if you check the result. For a bankable energy report a lender will review, the bar is higher. Our guide to PVsyst freelancer vs firm covers that decision.
